GV 2023 Medium Club of the Year

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

New to our Club? We understand you may have a lot of questions about gymnastics and our club, so here are a few we have heard before.
  • What should / shouldn't my child bring to class?

    Bring

Please bring a clearly labelled water bottle. For our Squad classes training over 2 hours, gymnasts are to bring a healthy snack for break.

    Do not bring

Please leave all valuables at home, we can not be liable for valuables such as Fit Bits, watches, phones, money, camera's etc.

  • What should my child wear to class?

Comfortable clothing with no zips or buttons ie. leggings, shorts, t-shirts, leotards, etc. Long hair should be neatly tied back. No jewellery is to be worn, small studs or sleepers are acceptable.

Where possible wear slip-on shoes. Gymnastics is always performed in bare feet.

Our squad gymnasts are required to wear their training leotard on Saturdays and any other sessions requested by their coach. Competition leotards are not to be worn to training except when notified.

  • Can my child do a make up class if they miss one?

Due to the full capacity of all our classes, we can only offer make up classes in classes that are not full. Please arrange this via email with our office.

  • Can I stay and watch my child?

    1 hr recreational classes

We encourage parents to drop off and pick up to avoid congestion in the waiting area and save this small space for our more vulnerable children's parents.

    Squad Classes

Parents can stay for 10 minutes at the beginning of the class and 10 minutes before the end of their child’s class time. Please refer to the Parent Viewing Policy for Parent Viewing weeks.

  • I would like to speak to my child's coach.

Any questions you may have for your child's coach may be directed at the start or end of class if the coach is available. Parents are not permitted to enter the gym floor.

  • Are you open on Public Holidays?

No, we close for Public Holidays and these days are not charged.

  • What is the Registration Fee for?

The annual registration and insurance fee covers your membership with Gymnastics Australia, Gymnastics Victoria and Niddrie Gymnastics.

It provides assurance that you are participating with an affiliated club of Gymnastics Australia for which there are high standards of qualification and compliance.

Your registration and insurance expires December 31st each year and is payable before commencing classes in the new year.

  • What is the Squad Maintenance Levy?

We are a not for profit club run by a voluntary committee. The maintenance levy has been in existence for several years and is consistent with practices at many other similar clubs, such as kindergartens, tennis clubs and schools.

The principle is that the levy is applied to each Squad family, once per year. Once a family member attends a working bee for the 2 hour minimum time, the levy is refunded.

Squad Working Bees are designed so that various tasks can be undertaken eg. pit cleanout, floor realignment, general cleaning etc.

Assistance at competitions eg. Setup, pack up, canteen, door duties are not considered working bee activities.

Maintenance levies which remain are used for maintenance at the club. In the past funds raised from maintenance levies have been used to get the kitchen painted, purchase floor and carpet tiles for upstairs and electrical work.

  • What is the Fundraising Levy for?

After a survey a few years ago, it was unanimous that parents would prefer to pay a Fundraising Levy than participate in fundraising. The $10 levy per child makes up part of our annual registration fee. This is used for maintenance of equipment that often needs replacing.

We still hold Raffles etc at our competitions and display as we feel this adds to the enjoyment for our friends and family attending.

  • I have contacted the office, but nobody has called me back!

If our phones are unattended, emailing us will achieve the fastest response, we will get back to you as soon as possible.

  • When will my child be ready to move into squad?

All children are constantly reviewed within our assessment program and during training. If children show potential for the squad program, parents will be notified.

  • Do you have Lost Property

Yes, we have a lost property bin in the locker room (beside the girls toilets). Unlabelled items that are not collected at end of Term 2 and Term 4 will be donated to charity.

  • What is your Heat Policy?

    Recreational

In extreme heat the club still operates normal classes for Recreational 1 hour classes.

    Squad Program

Parents are to check with squad coaches with regards to extreme heat days and training.
