GV 2023 Medium Club of the Year

COMPETITIONS

Competition preparation and handy hints.

Competitions can be stressful at the best of times, so we've prepared a quick 'go to' list of information, expectations and handy hints to help.

Please contact the coach if:

  • Your child is unwell & not able to compete on the day. The coach will then inform competition management to scratch your daughter from the competition list.
  • Running late to the competition due to traffic or can’t find the venue.
  • Family emergency and you’re unable to attend.
  • Please DO NOT use the coaches phone number for an update on how your child is going with her gymnastics, this must be done at the gym either before or after class or book time for a meeting with the coach.

Competition Information

  • It’s very important that you have confirmed all your competitions for the year by mid April as we complete the entry forms 6-8 weeks prior to the competitions. This ensures our girls don’t miss out(however this sometimes still happens).

  • If the competition date shows both Saturday & Sunday (ie: 4-5 August), we won’t know which day your daughter is competing until at least 2 weeks prior (the hosting Club organises the timetable/schedule). It’s best to keep the weekend free, if possible. The club cannot request special consideration when all clubs in Victoria are in the same situation.

  • 2 weeks prior to a competition is when the hosting club will send through the competition work order.

  • The work order has the date and time of your daughter’s competition session. We will email you the information required and any specific parking arrangements for the venue.

  • As with all events there will be an entry fee for spectators and prices do vary from competition to competition. Competing gymnasts are free.

  • Please be very respectful and supportive of all children (plus other clubs) while you are watching your daughter. Niddrie Gymnastics would like to be known as a very positive supportive club to all.

ALP competitions

  • Levels 2-4: Scores will not be shown at competitions or given to parents for as these competitions are a TEAM EVENT and participation & fun are the key.

  • Levels 5-10: Scores will be shown on the competition floor. These levels have Team & Individual Awards.

Gymstar competitions

  • Gymstar Level 3 competitions are called 'Gymstar Meets'. Participation is the focus of Meets and all gymnasts will receive a medal.

  • Gymstar 3 presentations: Gymnasts will receive a certificate with their scores listed and an individual medal with a coloured band based on their overall score. At Gymstar 3, 1st – 3rd individual overall and teams will also be awarded.

  • Gymstar Level 4-8 competitions are called 'Gymstar Competitions'.

  • Gymstar Competition presentations: Gymnasts will receive a certificate with scores for each apparatus.Medals will be awarded for 1st – 3rd and ribbons will be awarded for 4th – 6th on apparatus and individual overall, as well as 1st – 3rd for teams. Handy Hints

Competitions can be nerve wracking for even the most seasoned competitors (and their parents too) – so we thought we would give some tips and hints for a smooth competition day!
  • Be up early and have a great breaky!
  • Pack your gym bag the night before. (water bottle, spare hair bands & hairspray. Level 4-10: grips, strapping tape, gym shoes etc if needed.)
  • Leave enough time to do your hair (and if this is your first competition, have a practice a couple of days earlier). Niddrie coaches prefer the girl’s hair to be placed in a bun – either a ponytail or plait bun with white, aqua & navy ribbons (Same colours as the club leotard).
  • Parents: Get coffee – you need to ensure you are calm too!
  • Hug your gymnast, tell them you love them, you’re proud of them, to do their best and support their team mates!
  • Leave plenty of time to get to the venue and consider parking – aim to arrive at least 15mins before your session’s general warm up begins.
  • Have FUN!
